Holistic Massage
Therapies
What is it?
Massage therapies are types of treatments that can help alleviate pain and improve mobility. Therapists use their hands to manipulate, mobilize, and massage the body tissues.
The word ‘holistic’ means to look at the ‘whole’ of something. This means that this form of massage therapy is designed to treat a person as a whole and have an effect on the body, mind and spirit.
The therapies draw from a wide range of massage techniques. Therapists trained in holistic massage have typically been through a wide training curriculum and have a lot of different skills to utilise. The core principles are based on a Swedish massage, the goal being to improve circulation, stimulate lymphatic drainage, and work on any areas of tissue that need some attention. The therapist can concentrate on specific pressure points and meridians to resolve related health issues.
A wonderful way to prevent or ease many health ailments, they are truly relaxing for your body and your mind.

Swedish Massage (or classic massage as it is sometimes called) gets its name from Per Henrik Ling, a Swede who, in the 1800's looked at eastern and western massage traditions and developed his own scientific system of massage movements which forms the basis of many massage techniques today.
It is the image associated with massage, involving the use of hands, forearms or elbows to manipulate the superficial layers of the muscles to improve mental and physical health. Active or passive movement of the joints may also be part of the massage.
The benefits include increased blood circulation, mental and physical relaxation , decreased stress and muscle tension, and improved range of motion. Swedish massage promotes general relaxation and well-being and sometimes for relief for symptoms associated with health conditions.

Indian head massage is a wonderfully relaxing massage based on the Ayurveda system of healing which has been practiced in India for over a thousand years.
Focussing on massaging acupressure points along the head, neck, and shoulders, often using circular massage strokes to improve hair and scalp condition.
Your treatment will involve a massage to the head, face, upper back, shoulders and arms that relieves tension in the muscles; it can be relaxing, stimulating and invigorating.
Indian head Massage can be done with or without oils, depending on your preference. You will be comfortably seated with towels covering your upper body or t-shirt if not using oil.
A typical Indian head massage treatment, usually starts with the shoulders, working into this area especially as it often holds a lot of tension. The upper back may also be massaged working around the shoulder blade. Following this, flowing motions will move up the neck massaging and stretching to relieve any stress and tension. Finally, the scalp is then massaged along the acuppresure points on the head, and in non-corporate settings, followed up by the forehead and the area around the eyes. The upper back and arms can also be massaged depending on the techniques being used.
This massage may be coupled with oils, which condition the hair and promotes growth and healthy skin.

What to expect
-
Wear clothing that suits the type of massage you are expecting. Typically you will be covered with a towel and the therapist will only reveal areas of the body they are working on.
Drink plenty of water before and immediately after your massage and don’t go to your appointment on a full stomach — this could cause stomach upset during and after your session.
You should arrive at the clinic in good time for your appointment to allow you to settle down in our reception area where you can wait to be met by your therapist to take you to the treatment room.
Your therapist will begin by taking a medical history covering your general health, present and previous conditions that you wish to improve. They will check if you have any known sensitivities to a particular oil (some oils can irritate asthma and other breathing problems), and discuss what product and techniques they would use based on your needs.
